About Ziger/Snead
Ziger/Snead LLP Architects provides high quality design services including architectural, strategic master planning, and sustainability consulting for a variety of private and public clients. Our projects range from residential to institutional to commercial and represent the idea that architecture should be true to its time, place and purpose. As a result, Ziger/Snead’s work over the past 25 years has received over 75 local, national and international awards for design excellence. Today, our staff of 13 includes nine registered architects with a broad range of experiences and interests to best help our clients creatively solve complex project challenges. We take great pride in finding thoughtful, intuitive, dignified solutions to design problems.
Sustainability is part of our design process and consistently affects our attitude toward the social, economic and environmental implications of our projects. As a result, our staff includes six LEED Accredited Professionals and an internal ‘Ziger/Snead Green Team’ charged with establishing, promoting, educating and shepherding the sustainability effort both within the office and to the broader community. Our portfolio now includes several notable USGBC LEED Certified projects including the Herring Run Watershed Association Headquarters, recognized as the first LEED Gold project in Baltimore City, and the proposed (currently being implemented) LEED Platinum Center for Parks & People at Auchentoroly Terrace. It is important to note that Ziger/Snead sees sustainable integrated design as an asset to the design process, and use sustainability to find the most compelling way to solve design, program and cost requirements.
Passive House Consulting Services
Ziger/Snead is proud to announce offering in-house Passive House Consulting Services registered through the Passive House Institute US (PHIUS). Our firm believes Passive House is the most effective means to design and build comfortable, healthy, durable, sustainable, and energy efficient buildings at an affordable cost. Ziger/Snead can provide Passive House Services in combination with our traditional architectural services or as part of a separate consulting service to owners, builders and architects. Our team is led by Jonas Risén, Architect and Passive House Consultant. Our services are listed below:
- Review of Passive House Standard, Cost, Benefits, Aesthetic and Process
- Building Skin Optimization during Design Phase including review of insulation, air barrier, glazing, and thermal bridges
- Integrated Energy Modeling during Design Phase using Passive House Planning Package (PHPP) software
- Builder/Contractor Education Workshop
- Review of Passive House requirements during Construction (including coordination with third party blower door contractor)
- Final Submission of application for Passive House Certification
